CRAFTING KYBURG'S PREMIUM WINES
Nestled in the heart of the Devon Valley just 10 minutes outside of Stellenbosch and 40 minutes’ drive from Cape Town, the family run Kyburg Boutique Wine Estate produces fine premium red wines. During 2000 and 2001 the 18 hectares (ha) of vineyards were replanted with cultivars best suited to the deep, fertile Oakleaf and Tukulu soil, made up of 8 ha Cabernet Sauvignon, 6 ha Merlot and 4 ha Shiraz.
Each phase from pruning to harvesting is actively monitored throughout the year to ensure high quality grapes. Only the best grapes are hand-picked for Kyburg’s premium wines, with a total production of 40’000 bottles per year.
Our harvesting time is determined by various factors both in the vineyards and in the laboratory. Infrared imagery is also used to identify the various growth areas. All of our grapes are hand-picked and checked so that only the quality fruits make their way into the cellar for crafting Kyburg’s premium wine.
Kyburg follows the Classic French tradition of wine making, low production per hectare, lately in controlled open fermentation and a high percentage of new French oak barrels used with every vintage. All of these giving the wines great structure, complexity, finesse with a good aging potential.
